Litchfield National Park

Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
We are using Wangi Falls as our base as we see the NP.  We have been for many swims in Wangi Falls. There are 2 cold water falls into the pool and a warm one into its own tiny pool.  There is a short walk up and over the water fall,
Wunderschöne Morgenstimmung für Frühaufsteher
Jurg has done it several times, alone, with Gian-Luca and then with Neesabella however I feel that steps are a bit much at the moment as my back muscles and rib hurt.  I have difficulty in getting up into the bus, getting out of a chair, the climb into our bed has been a challenge - let alone rolling over.

Was für eine Aussicht - unser Campspot

The children have now seen their first Bower Bird bower
- or love shack they call it here ;)

We had a slow couple of days with me and schooling ! Then we had the weekend !

Saturday
We went off discovering Tolmer Falls - sadly closed for swimming as they have a rare bat colony called the Orange Horseshoe Bat.

Then to Buley Rockhole- The best photos with as little people as possible - so crowded.

Florence Falls and a beautiful walk back to the car.  It was just a busy as Buley.

On the way back to camp we visited The Lost City a easy 4WD track in.
Liegt er hier richtig oder muss er noch etwas nach links?

Sunday
We visited the Bamboo Creek Tin Mine.

We then, unintentionally, spent the rest of the day exploring Walker Creek. It is a walk-in, with camp spot all along the creek.  Where you camp the water hole is yours alone to swim in.  We explored 3 places and didn't have to share with anyone - much better than than the two falls yesterday.

Camp site 4 we just had to have a swim and get some relief from the heat and sun. We were kept company with a large 1.2m Water Monitor.

Wasserechse

A short walk to camp spot 6 and a good sized deep pool all to ourselves.

On the way back we were now able to check out camp site 1 (campers had left) and with snorkel were able to see a Catfish about 200mm and Blackbrim about 350mm

The water is so clear, we had hours of fun.

Monday
A spot of school and then drive to Batchor, 64k's away, to do a spot of food shopping.  On the way back into the NP and camp we stopped at the Termite Centre.  There are 2 types, the Cathedral and the Magnetic. Here we bumped into people we met at the Centre of Australia - it is nice to meet a familiar face and discuss where each other has been and suggest where to go.

The Cathedral - 5 m tall and about 50 years old

The Magnetic - the only place in the world to find these termites. The ridge on the termites is running North South.  The flat sides are for the rising and setting sun - so they get an even temperature and less is exposed during the hottest part of the day as the sun is on the smallest part, the ridge. Now these really are saluting the sun !

We continued back to camp and checked out the Paperbark Swamp which is the natural reservoir for the Wangi Falls.

Tuesday

A lesson in the art of cooking was part of schooling today - morning tea was yummy ! More school and the kids are dying for a swim - not till school is finished.  It is so nice to just walk down to the Wangi Falls and have a dip.

After lunch off to the ruins of Blyth Homestead.

Then to Tjaynera Falls (Sandy Creek) a large water hole, with just a few other people.  Gian-Luca and Jurg spot a little turtle.

Back to camp for a beautiful fire smoky sunset.

We decide to move camp - we would like to walk up Walker Creek again with all our camp gear.  We moved the bus to the picnic area of Walker Creek with the intention of walking up and camping for the night.  However I decided that it was better that we didn't (sorry Kids) as my back and ribs were not in good enough condition to help lug everything in.  We decided to just stay put at the picnic area.  We were blessed ! It started to rain - no there are no picture evidence of me dancing in the rain in my dress - not to say it didn't happen ! Now I mean blessed in two ways 1. Camping or setting up camp in the rain is not my idea of fun ! and  2. It RAINED in the dry and it wasn't only 5 spots my dress was soaked and Jurg was cold before it was finished - the kids stayed in the water with their goggles on and looked at the rain drops from under the water - land on the surface.

The children have experience so much in and out of the water.  The snorkels have been so entertaining.
