Alice to Kakadu

We follow the Stuart Highway from Alice to Darwin (deviating through Kakadu)
Back through Alice - finally in range to organise a new part for the bus to be sent to Katherine.  Fuel up and discover the fuel economy damage of getting bogged !!!! Shopped and headed out of town.

We stopped at The Centre Rest Area as declared by explorer John McDouall Stuart!  And a monument is here to declare it !  We are half way between North and South AND almost half way between West and East. and the other possibility is that it is the 'centre of gravity' of Australia ! Maybe that where down under came from ;)

Das Zentrum von Australien
Und wir haben genau dort übernachtet

Met some lovely people as they asked everyone over to their camp fire. Love checking out people's caravans and buses - just like seeing someone else's house design !

Devils Marbles for a hot walk and lunch!  Die Murmmeln des Teufel's

Unser kleiner Bus!

Next road side stop didn't work out as planned -the grey nomads, wicked campers and everyone else beat us to it. There was no way we could fit in there. So drove back to a gravel pit and shared it with 2 others and heaps of space and a fire to share.  However just as we stopped there was a new sound coming from the bus ..... Nope not a flat tyre, a air hose had finished its life, so Jurg is under the hot bus fixing, again !

Katherine
I have noticed that they do a lot of burning off up here and there is so much dry grass around.  We did pass a truck that had recently burnt out and so had about 200 m around it.
Und er hat immernoch gerochen!
Quick visit to the information centre in Katherine then more fuel ...... big tanks are good .... sort of !

A quick dip in the Hot Springs in Katherine 32 degrees.

We made our own camp again - nice and quiet.
